How the incident report template works

A good incident report answers what happened, where, when, and how you know. The template puts those answers in a fixed order so anyone reading it, from a manager to an insurer, finds the same thing in the same place.

The timeline is the heart of it: one row per observed action with a timestamp and the camera it came from. Keep timestamps in the camera's local time and note the time zone once in the details.

Describe people by clothing, colour and direction of travel rather than guessing who they are, and list what the footage cannot confirm under open questions. Everything stays in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

What should a security incident report include?

The incident type, date, time window and location; who reported it; a short factual summary; a timestamped timeline; descriptions of people and vehicles; the evidence (camera clips) and where it is stored; actions taken; and open questions.

How do I write an incident report from CCTV footage?

Export every camera covering the location for about 30 minutes either side of the incident, note each observed action with its timestamp and camera, then write the summary last. Ceptory can draft the timeline and summary from the footage for you to check.

Can I save the report as a PDF?

Yes. Use Print / PDF and choose Save as PDF in the print dialog, or download the Markdown file and attach it to a ticket.

Is anything I type sent to Ceptory?

No. The template runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is stored or uploaded.
